Adam, grinning at the camera in a backwards cap, beside his Great Dane Smoke at a creek in the woods.

I'm Adam. I'm single. I bought a domain about it.

Then I put it on the back of my running hat and ran a half marathon in it. If that's how you got here — hi. If a friend sent you this, she's a good friend.

the hat

The whole plan was a hat.

I build marketing campaigns for a living. Funnels, landing pages, the whole apparatus. Here's the one I built for myself.

  1. Buy the domain
  2. Put it on a hat
  3. Wear the hat backwards
  4. Run 13.1 miles
  5. Hope

the back of my head

Adam at the Run 4 The River finish line holding his half marathon medal, backwards cap on, finish time 1:47:03 at 8:10 per mile.

The entire ad campaign.

And the guy wearing it.

No budget. No targeting. No retargeting pixel. Just a guy in a hat and everybody who ended up behind him. I'd like the record to show it worked at least once, because here you are.

full disclosure

You should know what you're getting.

I'm forty-two. I run a company, raise three kids, pay a mortgage, and take all of it seriously. I am also, reliably, this.

Adam in a full Superman costume, flexing, with his arm around three friends in costume at his gym.
That's me. At my gym. In a Superman costume. Nobody dared me. Nobody asked. I simply felt the moment had arrived.
Adam on a beach in sunglasses, drinking from a hollowed pineapple through a straw held by a tiny plastic doll hand on his finger.
I own tiny plastic hands. Plural. They make everything funnier, prove me wrong!

If that sounds exhausting, we're probably not it. If you've already thought of something stupid we could do together, we probably are.

how I spend a Saturday

I'd rather be outside.

Eight years of Spartan races, up through the Beast. DEKA. A HYROX I never got to run because my body filed a formal complaint.

Adam mid-race at a Spartan event, carrying a heavy iron chain across his shoulders through a field.
The chain was heavier than it looks. The chain is always heavier than it looks.

This year I got serious about distance. First official half: 1:47:03, eight-ten pace — it's all on Strava. I have mentioned this to approximately everyone I have met since.

The rest of it is running, lifting, hiking, paddleboarding, kayaking, hot yoga, and whatever else gets me out of the house before noon.

You don't have to run a half marathon. You don't have to run at all. But if want to go do something outside lands better than want to grab drinks, we're going to get along fine.

Yes, I put this one on the website. I'm forty-two and I worked for it. Seemed like a waste to be modest about it now.

the roommate

This is Smoke.

Great Dane. Roughly the dimensions of a loveseat and twice as convinced he's a lap dog.

He does not sleep in my bed. He has his own, on the floor, like an animal with boundaries. What he does do is back slowly toward you and sit directly down onto your lap, at which point your evening is over and you live there now.

The cape is his. That one's on me.

the fine print

Stuff you'd find out by date three anyway.

I'd rather you found out now, on a website, at your own pace, with the option to close the tab.

Three kids
The best thing I've made. You wouldn't meet them for a good while — the first few months belong to two adults working out whether they actually fit. Kids don't audition people.
If you have kids: good
Same rule in both directions. And when it eventually is the right time, I'd want yours to feel like they're part of something — not luggage from a previous trip. I like kids. I'm just not in a hurry to introduce anyone.
I smoke weed
Daily. I'm telling you on the internet instead of on date four. You don't have to. You do have to be genuinely fine that I do.
Five foot nine
Posting it here so nobody has to spend a Saturday finding out.
Tattoos
A full sleeve and most of a leg, and I'm not slowing down. I tend to find them attractive on other people too — a preference, not a requirement.
Divorced
Amicably enough that it doesn't need its own paragraph. We co-parent, we talk, nobody's throwing anything. You wouldn't be walking into a war.

That's the whole list. I'm not hiding a second one.

the actual thing

There's one thing I'm genuinely picky about.

When I like someone, I'm not subtle. I ask questions. I make plans. I text first and I text back. I show up, and then I keep showing up.

I want that returned. Not constantly — nobody needs to rearrange her life around me. I'd just like to never have to wonder.

If I stopped making the plans, would we still see each other?

I'd like the answer to be yes.

The rest is easy. Someone funny, who can take a shot and return fire. Someone affectionate — I'm handsy in a slightly inconvenient way. A hand on your back in the grocery store. Getting swatted on the ass while you're trying to make coffee. If that sounds annoying, we're going to have problems.

I'm not looking to date a lot of people. I'm looking for one who's actually in it.

your move

Okay. Your turn.

No form. No questionnaire. Nobody is applying to date me. If you laughed once, or you're curious, or you think we'd get along — send me a message. That's the entire ask.

Don't know how to open? Steal this.

I saw the hat.

And if you're not single — forward this to somebody who is. That is a completely acceptable outcome.
